First MAGNOVA premium large-format screen unveiled at Magic Framez in Kochi; technology combines acoustic-transparent 4K HDR Direct View LED with Dolby Atmos® immersive audio
India’s premium cinema exhibition landscape is entering a new era with UFO Cinema Solutions unveiling MAGNOVA, a premium large-format cinema experience powered by next-generation Direct View LED technology. The technology was showcased at Magic Framez, Kakkanad, Kochi, with actor Rakesh Roshan and veteran South Indian actress Rohini Molleti joining the unveiling, alongside cinema exhibitors and industry stakeholders. The industry launch will bring together theatre owners, exhibitors, cinema professionals and industry dignitaries, with actress Rohini Molleti joining the event. Following its Kochi unveiling, MAGNOVA will be showcased at Big Cine Expo on 18 August 2026, where UFO Cinema Solutions is the Innovation Partner. The showcase will give India’s cinema exhibition community an opportunity to experience Direct View LED technology and understand how acoustic-transparent screen architecture and immersive audio can redefine the premium auditorium.
The first MAGNOVA auditorium features India’s first acoustic-transparent Direct View 4K HDR LED cinema screen, marking a significant shift from conventional projection-based cinema presentation. Unlike traditional systems where a projector throws an image onto a screen, Direct View LED technology uses the screen itself to generate the image, enabling enhanced brightness, deeper blacks, higher contrast and consistent picture quality across the viewing area.
The Kochi installation features a 14-metre-wide by 6-metre-high Scope-format screen, with a 3.91 mm pixel pitch, DCI-approved Direct View LED technology and 4K HDR visual capability, designed specifically for theatrical presentation.
At the heart of MAGNOVA is HEYLED by TIMEWAYING, an internationally recognised Direct View LED cinema technology manufacturer. A key differentiator is its acoustic-transparent architecture, which allows cinema speakers to be positioned directly behind the LED screen. This helps maintain the spatial connection between the visuals and the sound, allowing dialogue, music and sound effects to originate naturally from the screen.
The installation combines this technology with Dolby Atmos® immersive audio and Pulz Cinema Speakers, creating an integrated audiovisual environment designed for premium theatrical presentation.

India has approximately 10,000 cinema screens, while only around 50 operate as premium large-format screens, highlighting a significant opportunity for exhibitors looking to differentiate their properties and offer audiences an experience that goes beyond home entertainment.
For visually spectacular films such as Avatar, Avengers, Spider-Man, Odyssey and upcoming large-scale Indian productions such as Ramayana, screen size, brightness, contrast, colour reproduction and immersive sound can play an important role in translating a filmmaker’s vision to the big screen.
