A criminal case has been filed against Kangana Ranaut by Javed Akhtar in November 2020 before the magistrate allegedly making defamatory and baseless comments against him in television interviews.
Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut has approached Bombay high court for seeking the quashing of proceedings initiated by a city magistrate on a criminal defamation complaint filed against her by lyricist Javed Akhtar
In a huge setback for actor Kangana Ranaut, the bench of justice Revati mohite dere, of Bombay high court, has dismissed her plea that sought quashing of the complaint registered against her by lyricist Javed Akhtar. while Akhtar’s lawyer jay Bharadwaj was present through video conferencing Rizwan Siddique, Kangana’s lawyer was not. Justice mohite dere said, “the petition is dismissed.”
Kangana Ranaut has filed a plea in the high court to seek quashing of the entire proceedings initiated by the 10th metropolitan magistrate’s court at Mumbai in Andheri against her. This is against the complaint initiated under sections 499 and 500 of the Indian penal code by Akhtar. Siddiqui has pointed to certain procedural lapses on the part of the magistrate.
Kangana Ranaut has said that the case is initiated by the magistrate “without any application of judicial mind, as he has failed to examine witnesses named in the complaint on oath, as per section 200 read with section 202(2) of CrPC; and has instead thoughts to rely on the same witness-statements which ere collected by police under signatures which is in violation of the provisions of section 162 of CrPc.”
