England Smash Records with 304/2 Against

Against South Africa

England’s clash against South Africa turned into a record-smashing spectacle, with boundaries raining, milestones tumbling, and history being rewritten at every turn.

The hosts stormed to 304/2, the highest total ever by a Full Member nation in men’s T20Is and their best in the shortest format. This was only the third instance of a team crossing 300 in T20Is, following Zimbabwe’s 344/4 against Gambia (2024) and Nepal’s 314/3 against Mongolia (2023). Among Full Members, England surpassed India’s 297/6 against Bangladesh last year.

Salt’s Career-Defining Knock

Opening with Jos Buttler, Phil Salt unleashed carnage, racing to a 39-ball century—the fastest by an Englishman in T20Is. He remained unbeaten on 141 off 60 balls, the highest individual score by an England batter and seventh overall in men’s T20Is.

Salt now has four T20I centuries, equalling Suryakumar Yadav and trailing only Glenn Maxwell and Rohit Sharma (five each).

Buttler too was brutal, smashing a half-century off 18 balls, the third-fastest by an England player. Together, the duo added 126 runs in just 47 balls, with England racing to 100 in the Powerplay.

South Africa Collapse

Chasing a mountain, South Africa folded for 158. England’s 146-run win marked their biggest ever victory in men’s T20Is, surpassing the 137-run margin against West Indies in 2019. It also registered as South Africa’s heaviest defeat in the format.

With this thumping win, England levelled the series 1-1, setting up a mouth-watering decider on Sunday, 14 September in Nottingham.
