Today, the Supreme Court has given an important instruction to the Center regarding One Rank One Pension. Expressing displeasure over the envelope closed report given by the Central Government, the court has given a new formula for payment of outstanding pension of ex-servicemen. The court has asked the pensioners to clear all dues by February 2024.
OROP pensioners will get arrears
The Center has been asked to clear arrears to eligible family pensioners and gallantry winners of the armed forces under the One Rank One Pension scheme by April 30, 2023, under a Supreme Court directive. With this, the Supreme Court directed the Center that arrears should be given to eligible pensioners above 70 years by June 30, 2023. The apex court directed the remaining eligible pensioners to pay the arrears in equal installments on or before 30 August 2023, 30 November 2023 and 28 February 2024.
SC gave this instruction to the Center on OROP
Pensioners with 6 lakh family pension + gallantry awards should be given arrears by 30 April 2023.
Pay arrears to 4 lakh people above 70 years of age by June 30, 2023.
The remaining people of about 11 lakhs should be paid in 3 equal installments by 30 August 2023, 30 November 2023 and 28 February 2024.
Expressed displeasure over giving sealed cover note
The Supreme Court on Monday refused to accept the sealed cover note of the Center regarding its views on payment of One Rank One Pension (OROP) dues to ex-servicemen. A bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justices PS Narasimha and JB Pardiwala said that we need to end this sealed cover practice in the Supreme Court, it is contrary to the basic process of fair justice.
