Virat Kohli Announce Retirement From Test Cricket

Virat Kohli officially confirmed his retirement from Test cricket on his Instagram page, capping off two days of rumors.

 

With just over a month to go until the England tour, former India captain Virat Kohli has declared his retirement from Test cricket. Days after fellow Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma said goodbye to the format, 36-year-old Kohli made the choice. Early on Saturday morning, there were shockwaves following the announcement that Kohli had told the BCCI of his intention to retire from Test cricket. He still hasn’t reached the 10,000-run milestone and isn’t as old as some of the greats who played before him. With 9230 runs from 23 Tests at an average of 46.8, Kohli still believed it was time to retire from the format. He finished as India’s fourth-highest Test run scorer, behind Sachin Tendulkar (15,921), Rahul Dravid (13265), and Sunil Gavaskar (10122).

Two experienced batters were taken out of the running for selection ahead of India’s forthcoming tour of England when Kohli announced his retirement, just days after Rohit Sharma announced his resignation from Test cricket.

At an average of 46.85, Kohli scored 9,230 runs in Test cricket, including 30 hundreds and 31 half-centuries. He led India in 68 Test matches while serving as captain.
