Live updates on the India-Pakistan war: The rivalry between the two neighbors has reached unprecedented heights. Armed conflict along the border escalated overnight following the approval of the IMF loan, and it persisted this morning.
In a morning briefing, the ministries of defense and external affairs declared that Pakistan’s activities were provocative and escalating. They said that in retaliation, Indian forces attacked the Sialkot air base and other military installations in Pakistan.
Pakistan targeted residential areas and military bases with fighter planes and drones. India has insisted that escalation is not what it wants, but Pakistan must also be dedicated to de-escalation.
As a sign of escalation, they added, Pakistan has been observed deploying additional personnel to frontline regions.
Clearly, the Prime Minister has stated that the lessons would be imparted. Therefore, unless Pakistan decides to make some very explicit, categorical declarations to prove that it will demolish some terrorist infrastructure, it will fail to live up to something valuable. I don’t understand why India is retreating so quickly.
However, as you can see, we have reminded Pakistan at every turn that we do not wish to escalate. Even while we don’t want to escalate, they have no idea how things will turn out if they decide to do so. Only a very small portion of our military power has been deployed there.
