Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated ‘Doni Polo Airport‘, the first greenfield airport of Arunachal Pradesh at Holangi in Itanagar. PM Modi has launched the Udan brochure during the inauguration ceremony. Also, he has dedicated the 600 MW ‘Kameng Hydro Power Station’ to the nation. In the year 2019, PM Modi had laid the foundation stone for the construction of a greenfield airport in Holangi.
PM Modi said that you know that we have brought a work culture. Where we inaugurate the projects for which we have laid the foundation stone. Also said that now the era of ‘stuck, hanging and misleading’ is gone.
PM Modi’s efforts made dream come true: Rijiju
At the inauguration ceremony of Doni Polo Airport, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju said that it was our dream to have an airport in the capital of our state. Today, with the efforts of PM Modi, that dream has come true. He has given special directions for the construction of this airport.
According to an official statement, the terminal at Hollongi has been constructed at a cost of approximately Rs 955 crore. It has an area of 4100 square meters and has a maximum capacity to handle 200 passengers per hour.
This airport built in an area of more than 690 acres
This airport is the first greenfield airport of Arunachal Pradesh. It has been built over an area of over 690 acres at a cost of over Rs 640 crore. The airport is suitable for all weather operations with a 2,300 m runway.
Doni Polo Airport Arunachal’s third operational airport
An official statement said the airport terminal is a modern building. It promotes energy efficiency, renewable energy and recycling of resources. Doni Polo Airport will be the third operational airport for Arunachal Pradesh. With this, the total number of airports in the north-eastern region of the country will go up to 16. From 1947 to 2014, only nine airports were built in the North-East. Since then, in a short span of eight years, the Modi government has built seven airports in the Northeast.

North East has seen an increase in flights since 2014.
Airports in five northeastern states namely Mizoram, Meghalaya, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland have started flights for the first time in 75 years. The North-East has also seen a 113 per cent increase in aircraft movement since 2014, the statement said. It has increased from 852 per week in 2014 to 1817 per week in 2022.
The name of this airport is associated with Sun and Moon.
The name of the airport reflects the traditions and rich cultural heritage of Arunachal Pradesh and its age-old indigenous reverence for the Sun (Doni) and the Moon (Polo).
